Models

911 (901/911)
1963 – 1989
The Porsche 911 is the most enduring sports car design in history. Introduced in 1963 as the 901, the 911 has remained in continuous production ever since, evolving through numerous generations while retaining the distinctive rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout that defines the model. The air-cooled era spanning 1963 to 1998 encompasses the original short-wheelbase 901, the F-series long-wheelbase cars, the G-series from 1974 with its distinctive impact bumpers, and the final 3.2 Carrera and 964 generation before the switch to water cooling. The flat-six engine in 2.0, 2.2, 2.4, 2.7, 3.0 and 3.2-litre forms provides a unique driving character matched by no other car. The 911 rewards skilled drivers and punishes the careless — its tail-heavy balance requires respect. Values have risen significantly and early cars are now serious investments.

356
1948 – 1965
The Porsche 356 is the car that started the Porsche legend. Ferdinand Porsche junior built the first 356 in 1948 using Volkswagen components — the engine, gearbox and suspension all derived from the Beetle. Over the production run from 1948 to 1965, the 356 evolved from a basic hand-built prototype into a sophisticated sports car with its own purpose-designed engines. The 356 is available as a coupe, cabriolet and the iconic Speedster — a lightweight open car with a minimal windscreen. The Carrera variants with the four-cam engine are among the most valuable classic Porsches. All 356s require specialist knowledge for maintenance. The 356 Registry and specialist suppliers support the global ownership community.

914
1969 – 1976
The Porsche 914 was a joint venture between Porsche and Volkswagen, produced from 1969 to 1976. The mid-engined targa-top sports car used a VW 1.7 or 2.0-litre flat-four in the 914/4, while the rare 914/6 used the 911 flat-six engine. The mid-engine layout gives the 914 near-perfect weight distribution and handling balance that many consider superior to the 911 of the same era. The 914 was controversial on launch — critics called it underpowered and dismissed it as not a real Porsche — but time has been kind and the model is now appreciated on its own merits. The 914/6 is rare and highly collectible. Rust in the longitudinal sills and floor is the primary concern on all examples.

912
1965 – 1969
The Porsche 912 was produced from 1965 to 1969 as an affordable alternative to the 911. Using the 911 bodyshell with the 1582cc flat-four engine from the outgoing 356 SC, the 912 offered Porsche quality and handling at a lower price. The 912 is lighter than the 911 at the rear, giving it arguably better balanced handling. For many years the 912 was overlooked in favour of the 911 but values have risen strongly as appreciation for the model has grown. The 912 is an ideal entry into classic Porsche ownership — the body and chassis are identical to the 911 while the simpler engine is easier and cheaper to maintain. The 912E, produced briefly in 1976, used a fuel-injected VW engine and is a separate, rare variant.
