Beetle
1938 – 2003
The Volkswagen Beetle is one of the most significant cars in automotive history. Designed by Ferdinand Porsche in the 1930s, the Beetle used an air-cooled rear-mounted flat-four engine, independent suspension on all four corners and a distinctive rounded body shape that remained largely unchanged for over four decades. Over 21 million Beetles were produced, making it the best-selling car design in history. The simple and robust mechanics make the Beetle an ideal first classic car. The 1200, 1300 and 1600 engines are all easily serviced by home mechanics with basic tools. The main concerns when buying are rust in the heater channels and floor, which are structural on the Beetle, and the condition of the heat exchangers.
