BMW 730d Active Front Steering Motor Failure
The Active Front Steering system on E65/E66 uses an electric actuator in the steering column to vary the steering ratio. When the AFS motor or control module fails, the steering becomes very heavy at low speeds or unpredictably light at high speed. An orange AFS warning light illuminates. Fault codes P3136/P3140. The system defaults to fixed ratio but handling is compromised.
