The high pressure fuel pump on M57N/N2 can fail, causing extended cranking, rough running under load and fuel pressure codes P0087/P1093. Common on higher mileage examples. The pump is driven from the camshaft and requires significant labour to replace. Always check fuel filter condition before condemning the pump.
