The intake manifold swirl flaps on M57 engines are controlled by an actuator motor. When the actuator or position sensor fails, P2015 (intake manifold runner position sensor) is stored. In severe cases the flap can break off and enter the engine, causing severe damage. Many owners remove swirl flaps as a preventive measure with a blanking plate.
