Kia Sportage Mk3 2.0 GDI engine knock — Theta II recall
Engine knock or ticking sound from the 2.0 GDI Theta II engine, particularly under load. Metal debris from manufacturing defects in the connecting rod bearings causes premature wear. Kia and Hyundai issued a global recall and extended warranty (10 years/100,000 miles) for Theta II GDI engines due to this fault. If your Sportage Mk3 has not had the recall inspection, contact a Kia dealer immediately — engine seizure can occur without warning.
