Honda Civic 2.2 i-DTEC timing chain failure
Rattling noise from the engine on cold start. The Honda 2.2 i-DTEC diesel engine has a known timing chain tensioner weakness. The plastic chain guide wears and the tensioner loses pressure, allowing chain rattle. Left unattended, the chain can snap causing catastrophic engine damage. This fault has been reported across all Honda models using the 2.2 i-DTEC including the Accord, CR-V, and Civic.
