Tesla Model S MCU1 Touchscreen Failure — eMMC Failure
The MCU1 (Media Control Unit) in pre-2018 Model S has an eMMC flash memory chip that wears out from constant write cycles. The touchscreen becomes slow, unresponsive or completely dead. Tesla offered an MCU replacement as a recall/extended goodwill in some markets. MCU2 upgrade costs £2,000-3,500.
