A humming or whining noise from the rear of the vehicle that increases with speed and changes pitch when accelerating or decelerating. The rear drive unit bearing on some Tesla Model Y AWD and Performance models develops noise from approximately 40,000-60,000 miles. Tesla has replaced drive units under warranty for affected vehicles. The noise is diagnosable via the Tesla app using the service mode acoustic test function.
