No rattle warning — chain jumped a tooth suddenly at 78k. Significant valve damage on cylinders 1 and 2. Head off, valves replaced, new chain kit. £1,400 all in. These engines can fail without warning. If buying an Astra J 1.4T, get the chain done regardless of mileage if history is unknown.

✅ FixedAstra J timing chain — preventive at 60k
Read about the A14NET issue before buying. Had the chain done at 60k as a precaution by a Vauxhall specialist. Old chain had visible stretch. He said another 20k and it would have jumped. Cheap insurance.
Parts replaced: Timing chain kit, guides, tensioner
