Engine management light with fault code P0011 camshaft position timing over-advanced bank 1. Rough idle and reduced performance. On BMW N20 and N52 engined 3 Series models, P0011 is most commonly caused by a failing VANOS solenoid or contaminated engine oil. An oil change with the correct BMW Longlife-01 specification oil often resolves the fault. If the fault returns after an oil change, the VANOS solenoid filter screen requires cleaning or the solenoid itself needs replacement.
