🔴 Fix Immediately

Rattling noise from the engine on cold start lasting several seconds. The 1.4 TSI (CAVD/CTHE) engine shared across VW, Skoda, Seat, and Audi has a known timing chain tensioner weakness. The hydraulic tensioner fails to maintain adequate tension allowing the chain to rattle on start-up. Early detection is critical — the repair cost is manageable but if the chain jumps a tooth the repair bill can exceed the vehicle value.
