The 2.0 TDI PD and CR engines use a timing belt that must be replaced at specified intervals. Failure causes catastrophic engine damage on this interference engine. This fault code is stored when the engine control unit detects a specific fault condition. Common causes include sensor failures, wiring faults, and component wear. Always read additional fault codes before replacing parts — multiple codes together provide a clearer diagnosis. Clear the code after repair and test drive to confirm the fault does not return.

✅ FixedBelt snapped at 72k — engine destroyed
Bought the car not knowing the belt history. Belt snapped at 72k miles on the motorway. Catastrophic valve damage — bent valves on all cylinders. Engine replacement was the only option. £2,800 for a reconditioned engine. Lesson: always check cam belt history before buying any TDI.

✅ FixedTiming belt changed at 100k — original was cracking
Had the timing belt done at 100k as a precaution. When the old one came off it had visible cracks on the inner surface. Would have failed within another 10-15k easily. Also did water pump, tensioner and idler at the same time. Don't skip this service on any 2.0 TDI.
