Red or brown DSG fluid visible under the gearbox. The external mechatronic unit seal on the DQ250 6-speed wet clutch DSG is a known failure point. The seal is inexpensive but the repair requires partial disassembly of the gearbox. Always change the full DSG fluid when the seal is replaced. Using the correct VW G 052 182 fluid is critical — incorrect fluid destroys the clutch pack.

🧾 Driver Reports

✅ Fixed Output shaft seal — leak at nearside driveshaft

Trail of oil on the driveway every morning. Identified as the nearside output shaft seal on the DSG. Did it myself with a seal puller — £18 for the seal, couple of hours work. Cleaned everything up and no sign of any leak after 3 months.

Parts replaced: Output shaft seal

✅ Fixed Mechatronic unit seal replaced — leak sorted

Oil dripping from the gearbox area, noticed a puddle after parking overnight. Took it to a VAG specialist who found the mechatronic unit seal had failed — common on higher mileage DQ250 boxes. Seal replacement and DSG fluid change, £320 all in. No leak since, gearbox feels smoother too.

Parts replaced: Mechatronic seal kit, DSG fluid
