Tesla Model 3 heat pump failure in cold weather
Cabin heating stops working and range drops significantly in temperatures below -10°C. The heat pump on post-2020 Tesla Model 3 models can accumulate ice in the refrigerant circuit in very cold conditions. Tesla issued a software update to improve the heat pump defrost cycle. In hardware failures, the heat pump octovalve or accumulator requires replacement. The repair must be carried out by a Tesla service centre as proprietary parts and diagnostic equipment are required.
