Transmission warning light with fault code P0A93 or similar DCT-related code. The vehicle enters limp mode limiting to one or two gears. The 7DCT on the Sportage Mk5 diesel stores this code when the transmission control module detects abnormal clutch engagement behaviour. A TCU software flash by a Kia dealer resolves the fault in most cases without hardware replacement. Ensure DCT fluid is at the correct level before the dealer visit.

Tried a DCT fluid change at 35k miles even though Kia say it's sealed for life. Old fluid came out very dark. New fluid made an immediate difference — gear changes smoother and the judder on slow manoeuvring almost gone. Not a cure but worth doing.
